A Feminist critic and literary theorist, Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak is University Professor at Columbia University, where she is a founding member of the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society. She is a very influential postcolonial intellectual, best known for her essay Can the Subaltern Speak?, In Other Worlds: Essays in Cultural Politics, A Critique of Post-Colonial Reason: Toward a History of the Vanishing Present, and for her translation of and introduction to Jacques Derrida’s De la Grammatologie.
