Over the last thirty years, Berlin’s landscape has undergone major changes, which transform the unique relation of the German capital with its collective memory. Despite the official monuments or memorials, most traces of the past are disappearing. The Tempelhofer Feld, a former inner-city airport made famous by the 1948 airlift, opened as a park in 2010. It is now the largest public space of the city, as well as its biggest historical monument. This article attempts a description of its qualities as a landscape.
